A New Chapter: The Havre de Grace Arts Collective to Close Gallery 220 Location as Building Changes Hands
After two years fostering creativity, community, and bold artistic expression, the Havre de Grace Arts Collective announces the upcoming closure of its gallery space at 220 N Washington Street, following the recent change in building ownership.
While this transition marks the end of a memorable era, it also represents the beginning of exciting new possibilities for the Collective. Additionally, the Collective is excited for the growth of the new owners, Isaac's aNORAble Homes, LLC and their vision, and we look forward to seeing their plans for the space come to fruition.
“Gallery 220 has been more than a space—it’s been a home for emerging voices, a canvas for experimentation and a place where art brought people together,” said Haley I. M. Strong, Executive Director of the HdG Arts Collective. “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who walked through our doors, shared their vision and helped shape this community.”
Since opening in March 2023, Gallery 220 has presented more than 10 original exhibitions, showcased more than 800 artists, and served as a vibrant hub for performances, events and community gatherings. The gallery hosted an internship program and guided four bright and hardworking interns on their professional development journey. The spirit of connection and creative risk-taking that defined the gallery will continue to guide the Collective’s work. The gallery's closure is not a goodbye—it’s an evolution.
As the space makes way for new development, the Collective is actively exploring fresh formats and future collaborations. Plans are already in motion for a new home for the Collective.
Though the gallery will close its doors, the HdG Arts Collective continues to serve artists and audiences through its existing programs. These include Arts by the Bay Gallery, a robust performing arts program and a growing arts education initiative. The Collective also stewards the city’s Public Art Plan and manages the Havre de Grace Arts & Entertainment District. The organization is excited to shine a new light on these programs.
The Collective invites all to enjoy the last exhibition in their current space, Birds in Peril, and attend upcoming Gallery events through the end of May. All are welcome to join in honoring Gallery 220's achievements and help us dream of our future.
About the Havre de Grace Arts Collective:
Founded in 2017, the Havre de Grace Arts Collective is a community-led arts collective dedicated to supporting emerging artists and cultivating inclusive creative spaces. Through exhibitions, workshops, and public programming, the collective builds bridges between artists and audiences, fostering dialogue, experimentation, and growth.
About Gallery 220:
Gallery 220 was the brainchild of a group of local artists, the previous Executive Director, Katie Noe, and the Collective’s Director of Operations, Lexi Hauck. This amazing group of individuals came together to help foster a space for artists to showcase artwork that often challenged convention. Gallery 220 could not have been as successful as it was without this group of individuals or the kindness of the previous building owners. As the Havre de Grace Arts Collective transitions out of the original Gallery 220 location, it will continue exploring opportunities for the gallery to continue in a new capacity.
